All ThInGs bRiGhT 'n' BeAutIfUL

Weddings are beautiful....it is every girls dream to get married some day to her prince charming.....ok, maybe thats just my dream sha, combined with hollywood and bollywood rom com and some left –over Disney fantasies. Seriously though, when it comes to romantic movies, bollywood beats hollywood hands down!....you simply cant compare "Titanic" with "Kuchi kuchi hota hei".... probably 10 teardrops rolled down my cheeks when i watched the "Titanic", but for "kuchi kuchi", like 100 teardrops....sweet love tears J ....For a long time I wanted my future husband to be exactly like Rahul....Okaaay! I have veered off track...My point is wedding ceremonies are beautiful, and ofcourse i prefer Rahul to Jack J

Why I love weddings:
1.      Smiling faces! Everywhere...left and right, everyone is smiling....whether the smiles are real or fake doesnt really matter to me...everyones “32” is out, including toothpaste model like me.  Smiling faces oozes positive energy *see me sounding like some glasses-wearing psycologist*.  With those lovely smiles, who knows, you might just draw in your Mr/Miss right....*wink*
2.      Reuniting with Old friends (or old enemies). You'll most likely you hear, “Ömg, you  look so good, such a long time, how have you been.....”You simply cant go to a wedding and not know someone else excluding the couple...especially in Nigeria where almost everyone in the country is invited...well, except you don't even know the couple and you are just on a “mo gbo mo ya” level....
3.      The FOOD ... anyone who really knows me can testify that I love food and can consume big portions in one sitting...luckily for me, I still remain my “kunkunlu” self J. Theres just something about wedding food...it kinda taste better ...okay maybe I just go to weddings where the food is made by good caterers...or probably  its because everyone is in a jolly mood and good company just adds some  invisible ‘Maggi’ to the food J
4.      The Outfits! A Nigeria wedding is like a fashion show, so many designs, fabrics, colour combinations, e.t.c  Some sewn by popular designers, up-coming designers, and even by the ‘Sura d tailor’ beside your house etc... At a Nigeria wedding you immediately know the fashion-trending design or fabric.

wWeddings are just Awesome! And Yes, I attended a wedding  last week...both the traditional marriage (so much dancing goes on there mehn!) and the church wedding. It was a beautiful wedding...
Traditional wedding – Emerald green and gold
Church wedding  - Teal blue and Magenta

 Congratulations Mr and Mrs Oguntade!!!J

...and ofcourse Nimz made the two outfits...and as usual they were completed the morning of each event *sigh*. Have a beautiful week!!!

GliTteRiNg SeQuiNs n SmOoTh VeLveT

Hey luvies :* so sorry…its been such a long time..ok not yet two months but that's like centuries in fashion blogging time...July was a busy month, and I guess August is too, with the kids being on holiday and all, mommy didn't have time to sew..oh you are wondering how I look this cute and fab after popping out kids ehn...well,it's just diet, exercise and a lil thing called don't have any yet..coming soon though,watch this space...

Anyways, I made a blouse on Saturday, whoop! whoop! I had a wedding to attend that Saturday(i wish people had as many barbecues and 'come chops' though) but because I had quite a number of outfits to make I was gonna bust the wedding like Busta Rhymes *covers face* (please that lame joke never leaves this place, I have a reputation ooooo)  but my mum was like “ehn! Busy ko busy ni, you are going for that wedding!..gotta love mothers, she was going to drag me around and use me to show young men what they could see but could not have.....Lol, don't mind me....I am a self-wash pro like that...I’m not really a wedding person….no! i'll scratch that… I love weddings and all … it has just been a while I’ve been to a wedding…. everything is changing now…my friends are getting married  :)  coolies!.

So the color of the day was silver and red….*didnt buy asoebi( cloth of the family) * ,and so I decided my outfit will be a combination of sequins and velvet. *that’s like the asoebi trend*. I had recently bought a red velvet fabric but I didn’t have a silver sequined fabric, but I had black….so I was gonna do black …..I wont be bounced for not conforming with the color of the day, besides I can always fit under the bouncer's hand and run inside if I wanted to...Pint-sized girls rock big time!!!

Because I hadn’t planned on going for the wedding, as at friday, my black sequined blouse and velvet wrapper was all constructed and sewn only in my head, it was looking so gorgeous in my head sha, you needed to have been inside at that time. Obviously, I couldn’t make the church ceremony, not like I planned to anyways so I spent my Saturday morning, sewing my glittering and smooth outfit.

Thankfully my outfit was ready, just in time for the reception. You want to know how the wedding went? Well, good news is I didn't get bounced,in fact the bouncer was tripping for my outfit.....or maybe that was just in my head as well....

Blouse – black sequined round-neck peplum top

Wrapper – red velvet

More weddings this coming weekend... so i wont be staying away for so long :)
Have a lovely week y'all!

mY SpiRal FloWer PriNted BloUse

Hey people, trust you had a relaxing weekend… I did a lot of sewing but still squeezed out time to go watch a movie and attend a friend’s little get together/birthday party….yeah that's right, girl's gotta chill and eat some cake...Could even do with some more junk in my life right now,any ice-cream and pizza offers are welcome..Don't worry, the clothes still fit and if they don't,back to the sewing table....speaking of sewing, enough junk-loving and back to looking fab...

The piece of clothing I’m gonna display is a purple & black beaded blouse with a peterpan collar and puff sleeves. I did the beading and that took forever….I don’t like beading so much or any type of needle-work(I hail 'London tailors', those people are legends)......it takes a lot of time, energy and concentration, and I wouldn’t wanna prick my fingers, so my eyes need to be glued to the needle. Anyway, because I wanted to make my blouse pretty and make the fabric a little different, I got my hands to start beading.
The fabric had spiral flower prints which were really pretty,I just love using that word 'pretty'.The jacket being purple made it all the more.....wait for it....preeeetty. I had made a jacket with the same fabric ... my very first jacket…I was proud of that jacket even though it was just a regular jacket .I don’t know what the fabric is called though…it isn’t ankara, or woodin, or damask. I bought it in one of the ankara shops in the market, don't beg me,I won't tell you where...… the sales girl didn’t even know the fabric name.

I paired my beaded purple and black blouse with blue jeans and blue high-heel shoes…dropped the blue shoes at the back seat though ….I decided I didn’t want to stress my tiny legs….so I eventually wore lacy black flats….all making for a comfortable, stress less day...

Hope you like it too. Have a fabulous week *muah*

Its monday and i'm feeling BLUE!!!!!

Hello y'all
My weekend was stressful..don't look like you don't care, you do..joking....I could have done with some ice cream though....spent my saturday making my hair...ghana weaving and braids....6hrs!...that hairdresser is slow sha, with the plenty plenty people that gathered to make it. The hair though...fabulous when they were done (at least that's what my imaginary and real 'washers' told me)..I just couldnt sew with all the headaches and body aches......could have done with a massage...see me forming posh....actually it's not for....never mind, moving on.

Sunday! the day of the Lord! got back from church, still didnt have the energy for major sewing...but i did a lot of drafting.....and no,not pleadings (it's a lawyer's joke, dont worry if you don't get it)...on to the outfit....

I had planned to wear one black and blue jacket i've been working on since last month....it still wasnt complete it didnt have sleeves
Last week, I had cut out the fabric patterns for the sleeves.....i searched and searched for it....it was nowhere to be found. I was so frustrated, coz i had mised the fabric...and all that was left of the fabric were pieces....I didnt want a sleeveless jacket!. In my frustration , I gathered the pieces of fabric and kept staring at them, figuring out what to do...they were still so little to make short sleeves. So I just knew it was gonna be sleeveless.....i didnt want a basic sleevless jacket, wanted a little edge..so i figured out something....I dont even know what to call it...I just know I liked the outcome.

On monday, I wore my newly sewn blue and black jacket with blue pants and mid-heel black court shoes. Its a flowery patterned blue and black zip-up jacket. It has a peplum back and a zip detail in front(non-fashionistas, this means the outfit MAKE SENSE DIE!!!!!!!.....ah that felt good *puts on posh mien again* I mean its pretty cool)

 Enjoy!

Another AfrOceNtRic FriDaY

There's no weekday I love more than fridays..Another opportunity to bust some creative fashion moves.ALL HAIL CASUAL FRIDAYS!!!!!..some poem-loving blogger should probably do a poem titled 'FRIDAY MY LOVE'..lol..moving on..

I decided to play with the afro-centric look again.Out of the pile came....drumroll please......dududududu...MY HIGH WAISTED ANKARA PANTS!!!..that's right, the American in me calls them 'pants'

Same issue as my kente jacket....no button hole!....I really need to get a button hole machine...the issue is, they are just so huge and ugly....there should definitely be a portable one...i'll find it...I know I will....maybe I should give Kimora a call..lol

Anyway, my press buttons came to the rescue yet again....this time I sewed a gold fancy button right on top....I paired the ankara pants with a yellow polo top and orange n brown flats and that made my casual afrocentric Friday outfit......off to enjoy the rest of the Friday night with DJ pillow and a movie...

Have a lovely weekend y'all *muah*

MiSs kEnTe

Helllllloooo....been a long time....*palm covering my eyes*...
I had a busy month of May....however, i still had a little weekend time to make a couple of dresses but haven't gotten the time to make anything for myself....:(
I'll put more effort into my sewing during the week......Discipline....that's what I need.

Anyway, last week friday the 14th, was traditional day at the office....I wasn't really in the mood to go all traditional, so I searched through my "pile of unfinished clothes', frantically searching for any clothing item with african print, especially one that needed the tiniest bit of sewing to get completed. Voila! my kente jacket appeared! I quickly checked the edges, the sleeves to find out why it was in "the pile" and then i saw what i needed to do....or rather...what needed to be done....the button hole! I immediately started getting upset because that wasn't something I could do at the moment...it was thursday night!
And then it occurred to me, "I've got press buttons"....thank God! My mind at rest, I quickly got it ironed...didn't bother to fix the press button that night...did that on friday morning....yes...I procastinate sometimes.

About the jacket, the jacket is a kente/lace peplum piece...the color is bright and exciting....I made the peplum bottom by sewing 'kissing pleats'. The pleats aren't as defined as the peplum jacket in my first post(the jacket with the zip detail)....Hope you love it as much as I did....enjoy :D

Seriously, i really don't know what brought my hands together....i'm sure i was either saying something or doing something...whatever....lol

I just had to put upload this picture.....nigerian in a sari and an indian in ankara....pretty.....

Yeah yeah, i know i didn't go all traditional.....but I guess my look was afrocentric :)
Fingers crossed, I'll be uploading more pictures this week or the next.
Have a lovely week y'all.
Peace!
